Public Transit

Albany is accessible by air, rail and bus. USAir, American, and United Airlines as well as a number of "commuter airlines," arrive and depart from the Albany County Airport. The Greyhound and Trailways terminal is located in downtown Albany, and Amtrak has rail service to Hudson, Schenectady and Albany/Rensselaer (NOT Rensselaerville) – all about 30 miles from The Carey Institute. There is no regularly scheduled public transportation from any of these terminals to Rensselaerville. The Carey Institute can arrange for this service if needed, but arrangements must be made in advance of your arrival. Contact The Carey Institute Office (518-797-5100) for information. Rental car, taxi and limousine service is also available at the airport.

The Carey Institute has accommodations for all wedding guests.

If you plan to stay with us overnight, you will book your room through the RSVP formNOT The Carey Institute – and pay for your room upon arrival at registration.

Please indicate how many nights you will be staying with us on the RSVP form (Friday and Saturday, or just Saturday). Room rates vary between $119–149 per night.

Meals may also be provided by The Carey Institute for breakfast and lunch on Saturday at an added cost of $17.50 per guest for breakfast and $18.50 for lunch. If you are staying overnight on Friday, we do recommend eating onsite for breakfast and/or lunch since most restaurants are 20+ minutes away and the property has a lot to offer! Please let us know which meals you would like on the RSVP form.

Below is a map of the property. The majority of guests will be staying at the Ford Residence or Straus.

In historic Rensselaerville, you can explore beautiful waterfalls and hiking trails, kayak Lake Myosotis at the neighboring Huyck Nature Preserve, or take a quick drive to go golfing. Onsite, you can play tennis, volleyball, bocce ball or croquet in the open meadows.

Lake Myosotis

Have a kayak? Canoe? Bring them! The Carey Institute also has a couple you can borrow. The lake has a swimming area, so bring that bathing suit. Lake Myosotis is also a perfect location for bird watching. Great blue herons and bald eagles can frequently be seen swooping across the lake and many warblers inhabit the brush just off Lake Trail East. Be sure to keep an eye out for the resident beavers as well! Learn more here.

The Huyck Preserve has 12 miles of trails open to the public daily dawn to dusk. Trails snake along the Rensselaerville falls, meander through peaceful old-growth forests, circumvent both Lake Myosotis and Lincoln Pond, and wind through several 80+ year old pine and spruce plantations. From the trails you can explore and experience the forests, lakes, and streams of the Huyck Preserve and view a variety of wildlife. Learn more here. Grab a trail map here.

You have a few options if you want to spend the morning on the green, but your best bet is Thunderhart at Sunny Hill, which is about twenty minutes from the venue. Thunderhart is a championship course, par 72, is set in the Catskill Basin, and offers 11 ponds and 15 sand traps. In addition to breathtaking views, this 6,482 yard course is a “must play” with its scenic beauty and challenging design. You can check out the pricing here.

Whether you prefer to get offsite on Saturday to explore the area or are looking for a bite to eat on the drive up, below are some recommended places to eat and shop.
